For shared images and link previews, Facebook's recommended size is 1200 by 630 pixels — a wide 1.91:1 rectangle. It's the same shape Facebook reads from a page's Open Graph image, which is why a link you share with a correctly sized picture shows a big, clean banner while a badly sized one gets cropped into an awkward strip or shrunk into a tiny thumbnail beside the text. Resizing to 1200x630 here gives your post the large, attention-grabbing preview Facebook is designed to show.
The 1.91:1 ratio is easy to get wrong because so few source images are that wide. A phone photo is usually taller than it is wide, and a square graphic doesn't fit at all, so Facebook crops to the centre and you lose the top and bottom. The fix is to decide the crop yourself: trim the image to the 1.91:1 shape with our free Crop tool, keeping faces, logos and text comfortably inside the frame, and then resize to 1200x630 so the dimensions match exactly what Facebook wants.
Using it takes seconds. Upload your image, let it resize toward 1200x630, preview it, and download. If you're setting this image as the preview for a web page rather than posting it directly, drop the finished file in as the page's Open Graph image — 1200x630 is the size that platform after platform reads cleanly, so the same export tends to look right on Facebook, LinkedIn and beyond.
As with all our tools, the work happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to us and nothing is stored, which is reassuring when a post image is part of a campaign you haven't launched yet. It's free and watermark-free too, so there's no cost and no logo splashed across your banner — just resize, download and post.
If text matters in the image, remember that Facebook used to penalise heavily text-laden previews and still favours clean, image-led ones. Keep any wording short and large so it survives being scaled down in a busy feed. Get the 1200x630 frame right here, keep the message simple, and your shared post will land as the full-width banner it's meant to be.
